Structural work on Skai Holdings’ $1bn Palm Viceroy hotel is almost complete, months ahead of the scheduled programme, according to China State Construction Engineering Co (CSCEC) Middle East CEO, Yu Tao.
“We’ll finish the structure by the end of this month,” Tao said in an interview with Construction Week. “We’re more than six months ahead of schedule.”
Tao said that progress on the site has been swift, particularly as it had slipped behind scedule for a while last year during the height of summer.
“During Ramadan was a very difficult period. The temperatures were very high and we had a lot of Muslim workers on site who were fasting. So their work hours had to be restricted, which for the overall programme was not so good.”
He praised the work of CSCEC’s own project staff, the head of Skai Holdings’real estate division, Nabi Akiki, and the group’s CEO Kabir Mulchandani for their involvement.
“They’ve given a lot of input,” he said. “I think this is the first time we have had a client who has taken the contractor’s input so seriously and who has valued our commitment and our hard work,” he added. More info
